Why I will be a 3-Day Crew Member

This October, I'll be participating in a very special and powerful event in the fight against breast cancer. It's called the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure and I'd like to tell you about it.

It's a 60-mile walk over three days to raise money for breast cancer. Net proceeds from the 3-Day for the Cure fund innovative global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment. Virtually every major advance in the fight against breast cancer in the last 28 years has been impacted by a Komen for the Cure grant.

For the past 3 years I have been working with my friend, DJ, to raise money for her 3-Day walk. I created the Pink Heart shirt and donate $5 from the sale of each shirt to her efforts. This year I have decided to ramp up my support and GO and server the walkers with my time. I'll serve as a crew member on the Breast Friends Forever team, giving my all in service to the walkers for three days.

I've decided to raise $2,300 in donations. But I need your help. I will be holding a Funderwear Fundraiser that begins on April 1st and will go through June 1st. If you don’t want to participate in this, would you please consider making a tax-deductible donation of $100 to help me meet my goal? Follow the links below to visit my personal fundraising webpage and make a donation. Or call 800-996-3DAY to donate over the phone.

I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with me - by supporting my fundraising efforts. Thank you in advance for your generosity! Check back on April 1st for the complete Funderwear details!

Ask your employer if they will double your donation through a matching gift program!

Breast Cancer Facts:

Approximately 1.4 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer globally each year.

Approximately 456,000 people worldwide die from the disease each year.

Somewhere in the world, a woman dies from breast cancer every 69 seconds.

In the past 25 years, incidence rates have risen approximately 30 percent in westernized countries.

Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® Facts:

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure is a 60-mile walk for women and men who want to make a personal difference in the fight to end breast cancer. Participants commit to raise at least $2,300 and spend several months training to prepare for the event. They devote the entire three-day weekend to the cause. As a crew member I will devote an additional day – so 4 days total.

Since its inception in 2003, the Komen 3-Day for the Cure has raised nearly $600 million.

3-Day for the Cure net proceeds help pay for vital global breast cancer research and local community programs supporting education, screening and treatment. Susan G. Komen for the Cure® paid for more than 600,000 breast screenings in 2009--part of a more than $1.5 billion commitment to research, advocacy and community programs since Komen was founded in 1982.

3-Day for the Cure participants walk an average of 20 miles a day during the event. Participants are provided meals, snacks, drinks, shower facilities, tents, safety guidelines and 24-hour medical support--all resources needed for a safe and memorable experience. A crew of volunteers spends the entire weekend with walkers and staff to make the event possible.
